After making simple tweaks, a woman had an incredible 30 stone weight loss.
Tanya Santiago was making impressive progress on her journey but was halted by a cancer scare. Determined not to back down though, the 31-year-old didn’t give up and has continued to follow the healthy changes she made to her life.
The retail store manager from California weighed 42st 12lbs at her heaviest, wearing clothes in a size 7XL.
She says she’d gotten so big at that time that she struggled to get out of bed and ‘everyday tasks were difficult’.
“I ate anything I could get my hands on,” she explained. “Chinese was my go-to and Mexican. I’d eat enormous portions – for a family of six.”

But in 2020, tragedy struck as Tanya, who hadn’t known she was pregnant, suffered a miscarriage.
She explained she’d had ‘irregular periods’ that were ‘really heavy and lasted a year’.
And during a procedure to remove tissue from inside her uterus, it was found she had miscarried.
“I was three months along, and my body was rejecting the pregnancy,” Tanya said.
“I had to get an abortion pill as I was too big to go on the table.”
This scare put things into perspective, with the realisation she couldn’t carry a baby without being in serious danger. After grieving this, she also realised she wasn’t happy in her marriage and filed for divorce in December 2021.

So, Tanya started to make simple changes and exercising however she could – starting with short walks and pool exercises.
Chinese takeaways were swapped for low-carb homemade meals, and she’d lost 17st 12lbs by January 2023.
However, her health was deteriorating as Tanya said: “I went to the doctor and he said it’s great you’ve lost all this weight but you have fatty liver disease and it’s going to turn into cancer.”
A gastric bypass was advised to help her lose the additional weight and reverse the disease.
Since that four-hour operation, the woman kept up her exercise and now works out a mega six days a week for two hours a day.
Thanks to her determination before and after the bypass, Tanya now weighs 12st 2lbs and her family hardly even recognise her.

“When I went home they said ‘who is this lady at my door?'” she explained.
“They said ‘you shape shift’.”
The woman says her old life feels like an ‘old TV show that used to air’ as she’s amazed every day that she ‘can run’.
She’s still got her old 7XL clothes as a ‘reminder’ of how far she has come and is now becoming an online coach and bodybuilder.
“I just want to help other people,” Tanya added. “If I can do it you guys can too.”

Bhad Bhabie, real name Danielle Bregoli, admitted to fans this week that she has been diagnosed with cancer, following comments on her appearance.
The American rapper and former viral star made the admission to stop the ‘worst narratives’ surrounding her changing appearance.
Bregoli, 21, is best known as the ‘cash me outside’ girl after her outrageous appearance on talk show Dr. Phil, when she was just 13 years old.

Since then, she has ventured out into music, and has also proved to be very successful on OnlyFans, sharing that she made an eye-watering £800,000 on her first day on the site, shortly after her 18th birthday.
With over 15.8 million followers on Instagram, it’s fair to say that the ‘Gucci Flip Flops’ rapper is more than a one-hit wonder in the celebrity space.
Many of her fans have voiced worry and concern over the star’s change in appearance in recent weeks, joking about her eating habits or use of weight-loss drugs.
This led to the 21-year-old to posting a message explaining her health on Thursday (7 November) via social media.
“I’m sorry my cancer medicine made me loose (sic) weight,” she wrote on her Instagram story, adding that she is ‘slowly gaining it back’.
One of her family members then confirmed the claims to TMZ on Friday (8 November) morning, adding that Bregoli is receiving treatment from a doctor.

Bregoli’s mother, Barbara Bregoli, also called out trolls and bloggers after they commented on the musician’s health update.
One gossip blogger was criticised after he suggested that she ‘pulled a Lil Tay’, who is a viral star once caught up in a fake death scandal.
Barbara took to Instagram to fire back at the writer, saying: “I pray to God one of your children never get cancer. I’ve had it twice. How dare you say my daughter’s faking this.”
The mother then openly shared her own past experience with cancer and the medication she had to take.
“For all those individuals commenting on cancer and cancer meds just bloating you this was me one year after my 1st diagnosis,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself, looking slender in a black top and white skirt, revealing that she too had to suffer the consequences of the deadly disease.
In a short message to trolls and people online, she also asked people to ‘stop with your assumptions!!!’
LADbible has reached out to Bhad Bhabie’s representatives for a comment.

Although most people celebrate shedding a bit of weight, Josh Gad has revealed he’s worried that his career will hit the skids now he’s slimmer.
The Florida-born actor, best known for voicing Olaf in the Frozen franchise, explained that he feels a bit lost now he can no longer be the ‘funny fat guy’.
He has shed a whopping five stone with the help of weight loss medication, which he described as a ‘miracle drug‘.
During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on Monday (27 January), Gad explained: “I’m on a GLP-1. This is the first time I’ve opened up about this.”
GLP-1 drugs are a class of medications which mainly help manage blood sugar levels for those who have Type 2 diabetes. But they can also be used to help those struggling with obesity, with the likes of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro suppressing your appetite and increasing the amount of time food stays in the stomach.

These medications work by triggering an insulin rush which pushes sugar out of your bloodstream and in to cells for your body to use, leaving you feeling fuller for longer.
“It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise,” Gad, 43, said in reference to food cravings. “When I wake up, I feel hunger pains, and so much of that is psychological. And what this does is it takes away that signal.”
Without getting into the specifics of exactly what drug he had initially been taking, the father-of-two revealed he ‘had to switch’ to another.
He continued: “So I’m figuring out this new one, and it is life-changing. But it also doesn’t negate the fact that it can’t be in the place of having a healthy relationship with food.”
You can say that again, Gad.
The Broadway star – who wowed with his performance as Elder Arnold Cunningham in The Book of Mormon – confessed that he has felt like he is ‘cheating himself’ by using a weight loss aid.
Gad said: “I’m actually really happy that I’m opening up about this, because I’m having my own journey with it.

The Frozen star said having a ‘healthy relationship with food’ is the most important thing (YouTube/Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard)
He went on: “Sometimes I feel like I’m cheating myself by doing this, and I know a lot of people who aren’t overweight like I am who are taking it, and then I feel like, ‘Okay I should be able to do this because I need it for health’.”
The actor then revealed that his wife, actress Ida Darvish, 49, – who he shares daughters Ava, 14, and Isabella, 10, with – is ‘not thrilled’ about him taking the medication.
She reckons it might distract him from addressing the root cause of his weight gain, however, Gad is more worried about how his new size will impact his acting career.
He told the podcast: “I’ve always been the funny fat guy. Can I be the funny skinny guy? Can I be the hot leading man?
“I don’t know that people would accept me as those things. I’m not as worried about that because my primary goal is, I want to be there for my kids. Everything else is bulls**t.”
Back in 2013, Gad revealed that he had lost around 30 pounds by abiding by a strict diet regime, working with a nutritionist and cutting down ‘from about 18 meals a day to about five’.

Lung cancer is something that sadly affects thousands of Brits each year, but there’s one test you can do at home which allows you to potentially catch the signs early.
According to Cancer Research UK, between 2016 and 2018, there were 48,549 new cases of lung cancer in the UK population.
As a serious condition which can spread rapidly, catching lung cancer early is essential.
This simple test is something you can do on-the-go or at home – you can even do it right now and it takes seconds!

The finger test can help you spot early signs of lung cancer. (Getty Stock Image)
As a potential life-saver, why risk leaving it until your symptoms are staring you in the face?
Here’s how you can do it:
- Put your fingernails together as if you’re making a heart using both hands.
- Start with your index fingers and slowly take turns with your other fingers until you finish with your pinkies.
- Now, do you see a little diamond-shape space in the middle of your two fingernails when they meet?
That’s exactly what you want to see!
If you don’t, you may need to take a closer look at your nails as ‘clubbing’ could be a sign of early-stage lung cancer.
What is clubbing?
Clubbing can take years to develop and is usually a sign of an issue with the heart or lungs.
Cancer Research UK determines it as: “Certain changes in the shape of your fingers and fingernails. It is also called digital clubbing or Hippocratic fingers.
“People with conditions such as heart or lung problems sometimes have these changes.”
The charity describes it as unfolding in stages and that it begins as ‘softening of the base of the nail (nail bed) and redness (erythema) of the skin around the nail’ as well as the skin below the cuticle becoming curvier, the skin around the nails becoming shiny before the ends of the fingers growing larger and looking ‘clubbed’- as though they are bulbous.
Brian Gemmell, a lung cancer patient, told The Sun about the importance of early intervention: “Go and see your doctor If you’ve got anything that you’re concerned about – that’s what a GP is for. Go as soon as you can.”
Dr Helen Piercy, a GP from West Lancashire also advised that any symptom needs to be checked out.
She said: “If you notice any signs or symptoms that concern you, see your GP. First phone for an appointment. You will be assessed. You will be invited in, if you need to be seen face-to-face. Don’t be afraid. Pick up the phone.”
Whilst finger changes could be a sign, there are more common lung cancer symptoms to be aware of.

The NHS details these symptoms as:
· A cough that doesn’t go away after 2 or 3 weeks
· A long-standing cough that gets worse
· Persistent chest infections
· Coughing up blood
· An ache or pain when breathing or coughing
· Persistent breathlessness
· Persistent tiredness or lack of energy
· Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
If you show signs of any of the above symptoms, make sure to see your GP to rule out underlying issues.
If you’ve been affected by any of these issues and want to speak to someone in confidence, contact Macmillan’s Cancer Support Line on 0808 808 00 00, 8am–8pm seven days a week.
